The first Sanyo Beta VCRS came
along in 1977, the VTC 9100 being their first model. The line of Sanyo Beta VCRS are very well made VCRS, unlike
a lot of Sony models, Sanyo Beta VCRS to this day are less problematic. The Betacord
name was a continuation from Sanyo's invention of the Vcord Vcord II
which was a format that did not succeed. Sanyo Betacord VCRS, when the tape
was loaded, much like VHS, tape did not thread around the head. During
rewind and Fast forward there is no tape to head contact, which means less
head wear during use. Tape threaded once play or record is pressed, which
gives a slight delay in action. Companies like Sears, and Realistic (Radio
Shack) sold their line of Sanyo made Beta VCRS. Sony and Sanyo were the two
top sellers during the Beta VCR era. Sanyo Discontinued production of Beta
VCRS in 1986.
