Zenith Video Director Beta VCR VR9775PT Information

The Zenith Video Director Beta VCR model VR9775PT, a direct clone of the Sony Betamax SL-2500. From year 1982. Features, frame by frame, slow motion also x1 x2 speeds, these features are called swing search and can be done in forward and reverse. Also has Tape remaining indicator, index to mark tapes etc. Pause, slow motion features on this VCR are very stable, a still picture with no noise. Unit has two different doors, when tape is loaded the "Cassette is inside Betamax" door comes up. Very modern VCR for it's time. First VCR to offer real linear time counter. The AG-400 cassette auto changer could be used with this VCR for more recording time and different events when user was not home. Cassette auto changers are not very reliable. This VCR Also has a 10 minute on board battery backup incase of a power surge, this was good for keeping the programmed recording events, and the time.

Common defects:

Tape Loading Problem: This is caused by the little plastic gears wearing. Sony switch them to metal. Technicians used to see these VCRS pretty common back in the 1980s and 90s, due to this problem.

Audio and Video Heads: Audio heads to wear easy on these models which cause weak audio. Video heads tend to cause a fuzzy picture even if a tape is play with a small portion of tape wear. Video head cleaner will fix this problem.
